Although not required, it is prudent for a college student to be fully immunized for Hepatitis A & B, Varicella (chickenpox), Tetanus & HPV (for women). Hepatitis B, Tetanus and HPV are available in our clinic for a fee. However, it is recommended that students be immunized by their healthcare provider at home to facilitate insurance coverage for the vaccines. We are not able to bill insurance providers. If you have questions regarding these vaccines, the Center for Disease Control and the American College Health Association Web sites can provide the most current information and recommendations.
Insurance
Students can be seen in the Student Health Center regardless of what health insurance plan they are covered by; however, if additional diagnostics tests or prescriptions are recommended, the student and his/her insurance carrier will be responsible for these costs.
In today’s increasingly complex health care environment, it is imperative that students be familiar with the specific coverage, requirements and limitations of their individual insurance plan. Although the staff can offer assistance, it is ultimately the student’s responsibility to determine insurance coverage for diagnostic tests, hospitalization, etc.
The Student Health Insurance plan will be offered through Kaiser Permanente for the 2009-2010 school year. Information about this plan is available online at http://studentnet.kp.org Choose “Dominican University” in the drop down.
Coverage in the Dominican Student Health Plan is mandatory for students that are signed up for 6 units or more. Students can waive coverage if they can provide proof of healthcare coverage through another plan.
It is the student’s responsibility to either enroll or waive coverage in the health plan by September 18, 2009 or January 31, 2010 for students entering the Spring semester or those with a change in status.
Medical coverage for the Student Kaiser Plan runs from 8/15/09 to 8/14/10.
All students who wish to waive the Student Health Plan must do so on-line no later than 9/18/09 or 1/31/10 accordingly. Proof of medical coverage will be required. Students failing to waive coverage will automatically be charged for the plan, and will need to complete the enrollment form as soon as possible.
For questions, please stop by the Student Health Center or Business Services.
