Library Information
Instruction, Research, and Resources
August 2009
Welcome, New Faculty!
Most of the Library services, resources, and policies can be accessed from our web site, located at http://www.dominican.edu/library. Check the Faculty Support section, with online forms for requesting course reserves and library instruction.
Library Instruction: A one-credit Information & Research course is offered through the Library. While the requirement is phasing out, we encourage you to include library instruction in your syllabi for any of your courses that have a significant bibliographic research component. You can set up a Library instruction session by contact your department's Library liaison.
Research Assistance: Librarians are happy to provide research assistance to your students and to you. Many students are shocked when they cannot immediately find everything they need on the web. They don’t realize that the Library has an impressive collection of scholarly resources, both online and in print. We work with students to get them out of Google and into scholarly resources. The Reference Desk is open on a drop-in basis seven days a week, including most nights. More in-depth research assistance is available by consultation.
Online Resources: Alemany Library has over 40,000 journals online as well as access to over 90 different full-text and bibliographic resources in a variety of disciplines. We encourage you to take a few minutes to browse the Journals and Databases links from the Library’s home page.
Note: Access these resources off-campus by using your Dominican ID and Password
