History
Archbishop Alemany Library at Dominican University of California, named in honor of Joseph Sadoc Alemany, first Archbishop of San Francisco, opened its doors to the college community on April 17, 1963. Designed by Howard Friedman and Henry Schubart in collaboration with Sister Marguerite, the college librarian at the time, it was one of seven libraries to be awarded for architectural excellence in the 1964 American Institute of Architects Library Building Awards Program.
Currently the Archbishop Alemany Library houses over 100,000 volumes, subscribes to 40,000 journals and newspapers via print and subscription databases and open access archives. The Library is open over 80 hours a week during the fall and spring semesters.
Reference services provides assistance in library research and reference librarians are available seven days a week during the regular school term.
