Soccer brings sadness :( , but Thanksgiving brings smiles :)
Leighia- Tuesday, November 10, 2008- The struggle of being student –athlete, when things don't go your way, but the joy holidays brings!
Have you ever given something your all, and then fine out that what you had achieved as been taken away? Well that how it feels right now for the Dominican soccer team for 7 months my team and I have overcame adversity, cried together, endured intense double days, and won games. At the end of our season we had finished 10-0-2, the happiest time for our team, but those smiles of joy quickly turned into sorrow, when we would out that we had an ineligible person playing. There we took 6 loses taking us from the 1st place team to the 5th place in our league. Things have not been easy lately for me or the team. Personally, I know that we are undefeated every goal we scored, every blocked goal, assist and throw in was done with truth and dedication. Although, there is nothing we can do, it is hard playing with passion, when it feels like you have been robbed. I know that this road block, will not defeat us, & only will make us stronger. However, at the moment we just need time to accept reality and heal.
Soccer is a huge part of my life and with the season ending. I feel like a part of me is going to be missing, but thank God for spring league which starts the minute we return from Christmas break. However, I am more than excited to take a break from the fast pace life of a college student-athlete. Now I will have more time to do homework, hang out with friends, and most of all SLEEP!
Speaking of breaks Thanksgiving is coming up shortly. In approximately 15 days, 15 hours, and a few minutes l will be home in the wonderful Pomona California. But before I am able to get on the plane and enjoy the presence of my family that I miss so much, I will have Thanksgiving here at Dominican on November 24th. Thanksgiving Dinner is the best meal you will ever receive here. They have turkey, ham, dressing, mashed potatoes, yam, cranberry sauce, pies, and so much more. You have the opportunity to dress up and dine with all your friends and for a minute you will forget you are at school.
Well, my heart is still hurting from the news of DU soccer not being able to attend nationals in Florida ( or with slim chances), so for now this is all. Hopefully, next time I will have a blog filled with smiles and happiness.
