It's Been A While, But There's A Good Reason
Michaelia-Sunday, March 1, 2009- I haven't posted a blog since December but it was because I was busy recovering from my injury. But I'm back in action now!!
This school year is just blowing by, it’s already midterm time and basketball season has already reached the Cal Pac Tournament period. Unfortunately I will not be able to play in my 3rd Cal Pac appearance because I am still recovering from a broken collar bone.
January 22nd during a home game I broke my clavicle only a few minutes into the second half after being taken to the hospital I was told everything would mend on its own within 12 weeks. Less than a week later at my check up I was told that I needed immediate surgery because my bones had shifted. So, lucky me had to go into surgery at 7:30 the next morning. I was in so much pain prior to my surgery but after my surgeon fixed me up I felt a lot better. I now have 5 screws and a titanium plate holding my bone in place. My boyfriend has affectionately given me the name “Bionic Woman.” I spend about a week at home for recovery and when I returned to the dorms my roommates took great care of me and helped a whole lot since I had minimal use of my left arm. Since I did miss a lot of school, I missed out on a lot of homework. But I was able to explain my situation to my professors and they all completely understood and even offered their personal time to help me catch up. Thankfully I am all caught up and prepared to take all of my midterms. On top of that I have gained almost all movement back in my left arm and I’m functioning just like before, only difference I have a cool four inch scar.
The hardest part of my injury was knowing that I would not be able to finish out my season, or have chance to play in my last Cal Pack Tournament before switching to NCAA division II next season. So far I’ve miss 7 games but I’ve stood by the side of my teammates every step of the way and I love having the ability to watch and support a wonderful group of girls. Although every day I have the urge to pick up a basketball and go play, I know it’s in my best interest to wait, let everything heal and get ready for next season.
