Physical Education

Dominican offers a number of one-credit instructional PE classes throughout the academic year in activities such as Yoga, Swing Dancing, Aikido and Golf. Additional credit classes are available for members of the University's intercollegiate sports program. Please consult Dominican.edu/students for more information or to register for a class.
Try Yoga
This class is offered as a general introduction to yoga and includes definitions of Yoga, the comfortable seat, warming the joints, breath awareness, standing postures, forward folds, lunges and lunge-squats, abdominals, sun salutations, balance poses, backbends, side stretches, twists, seated postures, mudras (sealing the energy), bandhas (body locks), introduction to breath work, centering practice, sequencing, counter posing, meditation practice, and Sanskrit nomenclature.
Try Low Impact Aerobics
Improve your cardio respiratory functioning and reaction time, expand your mind and have fun! You will learn basic steps and movements that are combined to create routines, and before you know it, you will have completed an hour of cardio exercise. Each class will end with a cool down, including stretches for the major muscle groups.
Try West Coast Swing
This class is designed to cover the fundamentals of 'Swing', and includes starter and advanced steps, sugar push basic and variations, left side pass basic and variations, underarm turn basic and variations, whip and variations, closed position basics, throw-out basics, tuck and turn basics, spins and turn techniques, musicality, body isolation techniques, social skills, connection techniques, and lead and follow communications.
