August 2008 Edition

August's Newsletter for Rec Sports and Activities

Located one mile from the restaurants of San Rafael, two miles from sailing on the bay, 11 miles north of the arts and culture of San Francisco, and 15 miles from surfing on the beach, Dominican offers its students endless options for recreation. The campus is surrounded by hiking and biking trails in one of the most beautiful places in the world. The goal of Rec. Sports & Activities is to help provide a wide range of activities for students  to enjoy, whether it be through games to be played at their own leisure on the lawns, intramural competitions with prizes, or any of our many student clubs.

At Dominican University of California we provide close to two-dozen clubs for students to join, with the opportunity to spend time with people they might not otherwise meet. Clubs range from Sailing to Table Tennis to Aikido to Frisbee Golf for the more active, and Chess to Meditation to Perceptions for the more cerebral. On Thursday August 21st and Tuesday, August 25th, tables will be set up in front of Caleruega Dining Hall promoting our clubs, offering you the chance to learn more and join a club that suits you. If you would like to create your own club, contact Coordinator of Rec. Sports & Activities, Ned Webster, for more information in making it happen.

The lawns bordering the Library, Anne Hathaway and Meadowlands are kept in ideal shape for any number of games. Dominican offers scheduled Intramural Activities for more organized events, and new sporting equipment for "pick up games" in bocce ball, kickball, wiffle ball, football, soccer, badminton, croquet, and frisbee. Students interested in using this equipment can ask their R.A. who has a key to open the closets, and a clipboard sign-outs of the equipment. Once students are finished using the equipment, return it to your RA and sign back in. Please remember that you are responsible for the equipment; any that is lost or stolen is up to you to replace or pay for.
