Dominican Courses

All new Sustainable Practies Certificate participants enroll in a strong set of two courses specifically designed and offered for this program, taught by a local expert in sustainability. These courses include:

1) a course in the Foundations of Sustainability, and

2) a sector-specific "Track" course in one of the following: Applied Professions, Education, or Lifestyles.

Each course is offered once each term and takes place over 5 Saturday sessions. The courses will ensure that certificate graduates achieve a high level of knowledge about sustainability issues as well as the more specific and practical skills to apply this knowledge to their particular area of specialization.

Electives

Along with classes, students will choose electives to complement their area of specialization. These electives are offered by local organizations that regularly conduct workshops, seminars, training and professional development courses in a range of environmental topics.

Examples of the types of organizations participants can partner with include: the Environmental Forum of Marin, Farallones Institute, Lawrence Hall of Science, UC Berkeley, the Bay Institute, Save the Bay, PG&E Energy Center, and Bioneers, among others.

Internship or Capstone Project

Finally, a capstone project or internship, designed in coordination with and continued support from Dominican, ensures that students put practical application to what they learn in the program. These projects can also serve as vocational training for those seeking to develop their work experience and marketability for the burgeoning Sustainable Trades sector.
