Kim Schmelz was named as associate head coach for Dominican on September 16, 2024. Schmelz is a familiar name in the PacWest conference as she played four years for the University of Hawai'i at Hilo, topping the 1,000 career point plateau for the Vulcans. She finished her career ranked No. 2 all-time in career points for UHH with 1,041 and was named to the CoSIDA All-Academic Team and D2ADA All-Academic Team as a senior. After her playing days, Schmelz stayed on as an assistant coach for the Vulcans for two seasons helping coach Mandi Kawaha who broke the Vulcans' scoring record and was named First Team All-PacWest in 2022-23. A native of Sacramento, Schmelz returned to California to earn a Master's Degree in Coaching and Exercise Sciences from Concordia University Irvine while serving as the assistant coach at West Hills College Lemoore for the 2023-24 season. She also holds three degrees from UHH in Kinesiology, Psychology and Communications.
