International Education Week Features Global Achievement Award

Held in conjunction with International Education Week, the event also featured a keynote speech by Dr. Juan Carlos Arauz, Executive Director of E3: Education, Excellence, & Equity.

The Françoise Lepage Global Achievement Award honors a member of the Dominican community who has greatly influenced the internationalization of campus. This past summer Professor Michaels led Dominican students on a trip to explore Bali through the lens of culture and tradition as they examined their own beliefs, biases, and expectations about equity, diversity, and multiculturalism.

International Education Week at Dominican concluded on November 20 with a “Multi-Cultural and Study Abroad Fair” on Caleruega Dining Hall Plaza. Dominican and ELS students representing a variety of cultures and backgrounds tabled in the plaza sharing information, food, drinks and friendship with the campus community.

Led by the Global Education Office (GEO), International Education Week kicked off on November 18 when students and faculty presented their experiences abroad in "Digital Portfolios & Global Education: Two Great Things, Better Together" during lunch in Creekside Room.

“International education in higher education is focused on addressing social justice issues by furthering cross-cultural understanding,” says Dr. Kati Bell, GEO director at Dominican. “Ideals fundamental to internationalization at U.S. universities are closely linked to the goals and practice dating back to the vision of Senator J. William Fulbright, who believed that global peace and understanding could be achieved through educational exchange. GEO embraces this philosophy and is committed to collaborating across campus to institutionalize programs and processes that promote increased comfort with difference through cross-cultural understanding.”
