Summertime Networking: Jamie Nero
Jamie Nero, Research Analyst, Marin Economic Forum
The interview process for Jamie Nero’s fourth internship as a Barowsky School of Business (BSB) student was slightly unconventional and entirely socially distant.
“The interview process was a series of phone calls. I was on a road trip during the initial call, so that was interesting,” recalls Jamie, a rising senior studying Global Business & Marketing. “I made sure to take notes!”
Luckily, Jamie nailed the interviews and is this summer interning at Marin Economic Forum (MEF) as a Research Analyst and is helping analyze data about Marin businesses and their reopening plans.
Jamie found the internship opportunity through Courtney Budesa, BSB’s career and internship advisor.
“I have found many positions through her!” says Jamie, who also has interned with Blue Practice, a communications firm in Sausalito; Anywhere Outpost, a glamping company based in San Rafael; and VenturePad, a co-working space in San Rafael. Glamping is a portmanteau of “glamorous” and “camping” where nature meets modern luxury.
The MEF internship aligns with Jamie’s interest in business, data analytics, and research. She is researching COVID-19 economic recovery in Marin, as well as examining data that can help support minority-owned businesses in Marin County.
Each week she has a research agenda to fulfill, providing data and other information through primary and secondary research. The remote access job allows Jamie to make her own schedule, checking in weekly via Zoom or phone. She hopes to be able to meet her managers in person at some point.
“If it goes well during the summer, I may continue during the fall. If the offices open back up in the fall, then I look forward to being in the office.”
